Refinery Technician  Starting Rate: $23.75 per hour

Shift offered is 12 hours rotating shift / 4 days on 4 days off

The purpose of this position is to operate equipment associated with the refinery process. The refinery technician interacts on a regular basis with other refinery technicians, lab technicians, supervisors, contractors, and other personnel. Technicians in this position are responsible for the safe, effective, and efficient operation of the refinery.



  • Direct responsibility for operating and troubleshooting refining, bleaching, hydrogenation, deodorizer, utility, wastewater processes and using computerized control systems. 
  • Assist with troubleshooting of all other refinery operations as necessary (tank farm, loading/unloading, lab).  The refinery technician will be expected to learn and understand all refinery operations.
  • Verify operational performance by reviewing the Lab Technician analytical testing results associated with the assigned processes; interpret the data, make process changes if necessary, and communicate as needed.
  • Responsible for ensuring the equipment is fully operational and in good repair.  Perform minor maintenance on equipment and report maintenance issues.
  • Maintain the sanitation of the refinery in order to meet quality and food safety standards. Off-load incoming chemical trucks and load-out products.
  • Trouble shoot minor problems as required. Refinery Technicians are expected to know the process well enough to distinguish between problems that require immediate attention and those that can wait until more resources are available.
  • Continue to develop his or her troubleshooting skills over time.
  • Communicate in a courteous and positive manner to accomplish duties effectively, working as a team with all involved. 
  • The refinery technician’s priorities/responsibilities are: Safety-1, Quality-2,Production-3,Housekeeping -4, Special projects -5.
  • Maintain a high standard to Food Safety and plant housekeeping. 
  • Enter work orders utilizing maintenance computer program. 

Technicians in this position: 

  • Communicate in a courteous and positive manner to accomplish duties effectively, working as a team with all involved.
  • Operate all equipment associated with the refinery process including; centrifuges, pumps, bleach filters, deodorizer, high pressure boiler, vacuum systems, and cooling towers.
  • Expected to know how to perform operator maintenance and cleaning of all centrifuges.
  • Monitor and adjust operation of the refinery using computerized control systems to meet department requirements.
  • Ensure accurate information of oil quality and process parameters are recorded at specified intervals.
  • Work outdoors.
  • Understand and adhere to state and federal Occupational Safety and Health rules and regulations as related to plant safety. Follow all Cargill safety rules and regulations.

  • Ability to perform physical job duties which may include bending, lifting up to 50lbs, kneeling, climbing, crawling, and twisting safely, with or without a reasonable accommodation
  • Ability to work in elevated areas (4 feet and above)
  • Ability to work in varied indoor and outdoor conditions which may include heat, cold, dust, loud noise, etc., with the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) 
  • Ability to understand and communicate in English(verbal/written)
  • High School diploma or Equivalent
  • Basic use of a computer and typing skills
  • Ability to work overtime including weekends, holidays, or different shifts with advance notice


  • Able to operate machinery and/or industrial equipment
  • Forklift certified
  • Experience with SAP or a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office software, with an emphasis on Excel and Word
  • Prior experience in production related work
